Bone Mineral Density (BMD)
A Bone Mineral Density scan is a special type of x-ray that measures bone strength or fragility.
What is BMD?
BMD stands for Bone Mineral Density. It is a measure of the amount of minerals (mainly calcium and phosphorus) in a specific volume of bone. BMD is an important indicator of bone strength and is commonly used to assess the risk of bone fractures and the presence of osteoporosis (a condition where bones become weak and brittle).
This type of imaging requires an appointment, as preparation may necessary. This might include fasting for a period of time, or drinking water in the lead up to your appointment. Please contact our clinics for more information or to book.
This service is performed on a mixed billings basis. Contact us today to find out if your Bone Density Study is eligible to be bulk billed through Medicare.
